University of Birmingham and Innovation Gateway have announced a renewed Innovation Partnership to further the University’s ambition to create the ‘Smartest University Campus’ in the world.
The University of Birmingham is transforming their Birmingham and Dubai campuses into the world’s smartest global campus, creating a ‘Living Lab’ where data is captured from the University’s building technologies, estates infrastructure and energy plants to support net zero innovation acceleration. This ambitious programme also supports the University’s bold sustainability targets to achieve net zero carbon by 2045.
Trevor Payne, Director of Estates at University of Birmingham, commented,
“Our University is delighted to have joined this international, award-winning innovation partnership.
In a time when so many organisations are determined to accelerate their progress to net zero, we are all facing the same challenges, in similar timeframes, to tackle ‘at scale’ operations. We are relying on similar technologies and strategies to achieve our ambitious goals, so it’s critical that we accelerate our progress in a more evidenced manner by sharing and collaborating on our approaches. I look forward to working with IG and its fantastic partners on tackling these challenges.”
From Living Lab to real-world application
In partnership with Innovation Gateway’s network of partners and experts, including Natwest, Tesco, Greene King, Coca Cola, and more, Innovation Gateway will help the University of Birmingham to identify and qualify emerging breakthrough innovation opportunities through horizon-scanning, competitor analysis and targeted research to further the University’s ambition to create the ‘Smartest University Campus’ in the world.
This includes helping to establish the development of a Living Lab that will facilitate opportunities for research, teaching, learning and experimentation, influencing national and global strategies for smart, more sustainable spaces for all.
This unique partnership will enable the University to be at the forefront of innovation, and unlock the next breakthrough technologies and solutions from diverse industry sectors, applicable across its 200+ buildings.
