Unlocking the future of net zero heavy goods vehicles (HGVs) is critical to the full decarbonisation of our logistics sector.
That’s why Innovation Gateway has brought together logistic leaders to launch the HGVzero action group – an action-focused task force that is mobilising some of Europe’s largest shippers and hauliers including Coca-Cola Europacific Partners, Tesco, XPO Logistics, Stobart, DPD group and others, to accelerate the decarbonisation of their collective HGV fleets across the continent.
The HGVzero action group officially launched last week and has already shown the potential to shake up the industry (read the full story on edie). During the first collaborative session, members unpacked critical challenges and complex pinch points that hinder successful HGV roll-outs, including investment, land, vehicle technology, and stakeholder engagements.
Through a structured framework over the following months, the HGVzero partnership will meet regularly to address potential joint opportunities highlighted at the launch, including:
- Shared infrastructure (lane mapping)
- Joint supply chain engagement
- Multi-modal efficiency
- Vehicle technology transition
“Decarbonisation of HGVs is a critical business challenge. Innovation and collaboration are at the heart of what we do, and by bringing the best teams in the world together to take action, we will reduce risks and costs and develop solutions for a climate positive future,” commented Matt Pumfrey, CEO, Innovation Gateway.
Our members say:
Ellen Young, Director Procurement & GB Lead, Coca-Cola European Partners: “Being a part of this collaborative action group will enable us to knowledge share and invest our resources wisely to maximise success in both short- and long-term HGV projects.”
Dr Nicholas Head, Environmental and sustainability lead for the UK Ireland, XPO Logistics: “HGV decarbonisation is a systemic critical challenge that we must address innovatively and as an industry.”
